A New Way to Diagnose Schizophrenia

In a newly published paper, Andy Wirth also wrote that it has been documented that people with an extreme form of schizophrenia have different neural networks. Different not only from healthy people but different from those with bipolar, and other disorders as well.

Schizophrenia affects one in one hundred people and is most identified with the symptoms of delusions and hallucinations. Dr. Aristotle Voineskos, senior author on the paper said, “Finding ways to help this particular group of people with schizophrenia is a priority as recovery is unlikely, even up to 20 years after the initial diagnosis.

Social isolation, lack of work and relationships, and chronic disability are very common.” Approximately one in five of the people with schizophrenia experiences the negative symptoms of isolationism and negative motivation. With a biological brain base indicator, treatment for these individuals can start from the time of diagnosis. Until now, it took years to diagnose the more extreme forms of schizophrenia with social disorders.
