Ghostbusters fans may get their wish for a direct sequel to the first two films after all. Dan Akroyd and Ivan Reitman, the director of the original movies have joined forces to form a new production company named Ghostcorps. Their stated intention is to expand the Ghostbusters’ brand and other projects. One of the first things they want to do is make an all male Ghostbusters movie is all most certainly in response to the amount of backlash Paul Feig is receiving for his upcoming all female cast.
In the story reported here they say that Channing Tatum is set to produce and possible star in the film. Gianfrancesco Genoso had suggested there is also the possibility that Anthony and Joe Russo may be called on to direct and be a producer and Drew Pearce, the screenwriter of Iron Man 3, will be the one writing the script. If that is to happen, it will have to take place next year. The Russo’s are heavily rumored to be directing the two part Avengers: Infinity War which will begin filming in 2017 at the latest.
Reitman and Akroyd hope to turn the Ghostbusters movies into a full blown franchise with their new production company. There were a few cartoon shows in the 80s and 90s that many of the younger audience do not know about. They have ideas for more movies, television shows and marketed merchandise. If they are lucky they will be able to play off of the success of Feig’s film and create an entire shared universe of movies.
